The Ram

I recently ventured out west with a friend and visited the incredible Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. My objectives during this trip were to disconnect, rest, and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. I had been feeling defeated and a little down in the dumps, so I was really looking forward to this trip. While we were driving out of Las Vegas we drove through the incredible Valley of Fire just outside of Las Vegas. While we were driving, I saw a ram on the side of the road. Now, the voice of my wife screaming in my head was louder than my desire to get out and try to pet the ram. Plus, I’ve seen when animals attack.

While driving to Zion all I kept thinking about was that crazy ram. The next morning, I woke up and turned on the TV and flipped it to a Christian channel – which I rarely do. (I don’t have cable.) As soon as I turned it to the Christian station, a preacher said, “Just when you think your dreams are dead, God will always provide a ram.” I thought, “Okay, God. I hear what you’re trying to say.” This, of course, was in reference to the story of Abraham laying his son on the altar in Genesis 22. At just the right moment, God provided a ram for Abraham. Why? The God who tests is the God who provides.

2016 was met with a lot of incredible accomplishments, but for some of us it was a year of uncertainty and tests. There were times that, for me, the tests seemed too difficult to overcome. There were times I felt like Abraham and had my fists tightly gripped on the knife, ready to kill all of my dreams. The feeling of defeat for me was becoming a reality. But do you know what God did for me? He flew me all the way out to the Valley of Fire to see a ram to remind me that the God who tests greatly is the God who provides greatly.

Whatever it is in your life that seems like you are about to give up on, please hear me! The God who tests is the God who provides. 2016 may have been a year of testing for you, but with great tests, there is greater provision. This isn’t the false prosperity message; it is the method of operation of our God.

Today I am more confident than ever that the dreams and vision God has given you and me are going to happen. Because the God who tests is the God who provides.
